Goals and objectives:
- To promote the IDE environment outside the classroom by assisting departments through IDE co-curricular opportunities
- To collaborate with the office of Student Affairs to strengthen IDE efforts.

- To Host a First-Generation Open House, which provides a networking opportunity for student-parents and first-generation students, staff and faculty.
- I Am First Too initiative. This initiative aims to build a network and sense of pride among first-generation students through T-shirts, buttons, door tags and a social media campaign.
- I Am First Too poster, honoring individuals at PSU Fayette, including students, alumni, faculty and staff who have excelled as role models, trailblazers and advocates of first-generation student success.
- Bring ideas to the Office of Student Affairs with programming regarding IDE efforts.
- Reach out to the August Wilson Center for possible programming.
- Each semester month, we should promote a different diversity group.
- To increase students’ awareness of the Report Bias hotline. (link on IDEA website, larger independent posters rather than standard-sized paper on crowded bulletin boards).
- IDEA collaborating with Student Affairs Programming Planning/Brainstorming meetings.
- Have an annual MLK ceremony the Friday before MLK’s day.
- Have IDEA members and faculty willing to collaborate in the planning of All-In Diversity Summit.
- To promote the IDE environment in the classroom by assisting PSFE faculty through IDE curricular opportunities.
- For all classes, provide faculty training to recognize and promote the contributions to knowledge made by diverse cultural individual/groups and other historically marginalized people across the world.
- Develop a list of PSFE faculty names, university-wide faculty, staff, and community leaders with expertise on various diversity topics or issues to guide collaboration and consultation. (Goal 1)
- Faculty should have one lecture or part of a lecture devoted to showing the diversity in the work force of their academic field. If there is a lack of diversity, ask their students to answer the question, why?
- To offer one professional development workshop each academic year to assist faculty with incorporating issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in their courses.
- Utilize resources on campus and within the community to bring topics related to classroom curriculum to enhance our students’ learning experiences.
- Utilize the Student Affairs Activities Calendar (as well as other campus events) to promote learning outcomes of classes.
- Encourage faculty teaching FYS to incorporate one session on Diversity and Inclusion. Seek colleague’s expertise if necessary.
- To build a partnership between the campus and our nearby communities to empower and support underserved populations and local organizations.
- Assist local underrepresented students with the application process/Common Application. (Linked to Goal 4)
- Create an extension of our current speaker series (formerly the CEO conversation) by adding an inclusion day on campus and invite an inclusion speaker.
- To leverage campus resources to create educational opportunities and support networks in the community (tutoring, workshops on applying to college and applying for financial aid, counseling, non-credit certificate programs for career training)
- Have a few representatives from IDEA reach out to organizations within our community and visit those organizations/groups/churches/etc. Learn what those community partners do and work together to collaborate on events and bring PSU-FE to the local community, promoting outreach of campus faculty, staff and students to organizations.
- Work to find accessible places within the community and provide programming/classes/etc. at those locations rather than on campus.
- Organize, meet and seek a partnership with local members of the legislature to serve as advisors on IDE efforts in our community.
- To serve as an IDE sounding board in our campus to assist in outreach activities and the recruitment and retention of staff, faculty, and students.
- Raise awareness of the images that we use in our various methods of promotion, try to be inclusive of how we portray all of our students. (Goal 1)
- Utilize digital signs within the campus to promote diversity and inclusion.
- To identify barriers and challenges in the recruitment and retention of diverse staff, faculty and students and develop pro-active strategies.
- Work with HR to better understand the hiring process and how IDE can help to create additional steps to ensure IDE.
- Collaborate within each department on campus in their current outreach and work to provide suggestions to improve IDE.
- To bring annually someone to train faculty and staff on Affirmative Action
- To host annual focus groups with staff, faculty and students. In particular, with students in underrepresented groups.
- To practice and promote language awareness and social justice within the campus and local community.
- Create a presentation on language awareness and social justice. This presentation could be used as a professional development day.
- To provide training to faculty and staff on ways to intervene and re-direct unacceptable language, behavior and situations, and on strategies to turn uncomfortable or difficult discussions into opportunities for learning.
- In collaboration with experts (refer 2b), utilize “soft programming” to bring awareness to language – table tents, flyers, tabling.
- Work with the Fayette Dialogue and the diversity and inclusion faculty senate committee group to assist with these topics.
- To be supportive and vocal on social justice issues within our campus and community, for example making campus statements advocating for human rights and social justice.
- To have D&I hour or unity hour. Invite faculty, staff and students to have lunch/tea/coffee to share their experiences and their background to help making PSFE a more inclusive and welcoming campus.
- Create a diversity and multicultural designated area.
