The two day (sixteen hour) course covers advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) according to the standards promulgated by the American Heart Association. Information is presented in lectures, demonstrations, and small-group workshops that allows you to update your clinical expertise and learn new skills.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Provides basic and limited advanced emergency care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual will function as part of a comprehensive EMS response team. Under medical oversight the A-EMT will perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The A-EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
*Must be 18 years of age or older and a Pennsylvania State Certified Emergency Medical Technician to enroll in this course.

Basic Life Skills—CPR Training
American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers training reinforces healthcare professionals' understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, using an AED, and the role of each link in the Chain of Survival. Skill performance includes adult, child, and infant patients, as well as 2-rescuer CPR, AED use, and use of a bag-mask for ventilation. Students must successfully complete both skills and written examinations for certification. This course meets occupational requirements for health care providers in various fields.
You do not need to be in the medical field to participate in this course.
This specific training will be held at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus in the Eberly Building.

BLS Refresher Course (EMR and EMT)
BLS Refresher presents basic certified providers (EMR, EMT) with the updated national component requirements for recertification or remediation as required by the National Registry of EMT’s. This course will provide students with updated core education curriculum for basic providers in the practice of prehospital care. Information will be delivered by lecture and participation in case study reviews, no skill component is required.
*Must be a certified EMR or EMT or be eligible for National Registry remediation at either level.
Course will be completely virtual using Zoom sessions.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)-First Responder
The First Responder training program is based upon the course designed by the US Department of Transportation. This course was developed to provide training in emergency medical care for those who are likely to be the first persons to arrive at an accident or emergency scene, by nature of their vocation. While emergency care is not likely to be the first responder's primary responsibility, the first responder should know the basic principles of emergency medical care, so the initial steps in assessment of injuries and treatment of life threatening emergencies may be initiated.
Must be 16 years of age or older to enroll in this course.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor
Emergency Medical Services Instructor is a course designed to prepare participants to teach in the dynamic field of pre-hospital care. Students will explore educational psychology and teaching strategies. Participants will also discuss and practice various aspects of teaching in the cognitive, effective and psycho-motor domains. students will practice oral and practical lessons with each other, offering feedback on the effectiveness of their lesson. Students will learn strategies of dealing with both the problem and the exceptional student. An update of new information win EMS will be provided.
*Must complete AHA BLS Instructor Essentials course on line prior to start of class (not included in tuition fee) or provide proof of current BLS Instructor certification. Call office for details 724-430-4217.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
This course provides a basic foundation in pre-hospital emergency medical services care, as per procedures developed by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Prerequisites are:
A. Must be 16 years of age or older.
B. Prioritized Department of Health selection process enforced.
The program will be a minimum of 160 hours with combined lecture & practical skill sessions. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible for certification from the NREMT and the PA Dept. of health as an EMT.

Situational Awareness for First Responders
Situational Awareness for First Responders was developed to empower emergency responders with resources to understand and prepare for the physical, emotional, and cognitive responses to a critical incident.
First responders must prepare for increasingly violent environments due to the opioid epidemic and a higher frequency of active-shooter situations. The course will introduce survival mindset tactics, cover and concealment exercises, and best practices for addressing real-world ambush scenarios.
Situational Awareness for First Responders is a four-hour session offered free of charge. Connellsville native and law enforcement executive Brian Ruck will lead the session. The course is sponsored by Fayette County Emergency Medical Services Council.
